Wills lifestyle

This is what jury members are looking exactly in a new faces of 2009 for Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter.

Aparna Bahl, said, “The look on the ramp is very international these days, so a dusky Indian beauty with global appeal is what I would look out for along with good skin and a lot of individuality.”

Ashish Soni, said, “I’m looking for confidence, poise and something out of the ordinary, as the cliché goes “lots of attitude”… this one translated refers to not the usual qualities but something that a majority of the other girls don’t possess an interesting skin tone, body proportions, hairstyle and above all eye contact!”

Ayesha Thapar, said, “I’ll be looking for someone who has a complete package. It’s not important for a model to have only one outstanding feature, for instance, height alone does not make a model suitable for the ramp – but what important is how comfortable they are in their skin and how well coordinated they are in terms of their looks, attitude and poise on the ramp.”

Rahul Khanna, said, “I’m definitely looking for someone who makes a lasting impression on the ramp – someone who has an undeniable presence. The right attitude is also key for a model to have. I feel we have some great established models walking the runway, but we also need to look for new faces to introduce and launch.”

Tinu Verghese, said, “I’m looking for fresh faces, someone tall and slender with a great attitude and decidedly Indian features.”

Varun Bahl, said, “The look I’m going to be watching out for is one that is well divided and can carry and showcase Western as well as Indian wear. Additionally I’ll be looking for girls that are tall, young and have a lot of confidence on the ramp.”

IPL Fashion factor

Fashion show
Fashion factor at IPL (BCCL)
With glamour being integral to IPL, it’s no surprise that every after-match party will have top designers of the country hosting a fashion show. And the names involved with the shows are some of the best in the business.

Mehr Jesia Rampal Says who has been involved in organising these shows across the country, “We have been working on this for the past five months. There are over 55 matches in the country and hence, we have roped in designers accordingly. But these fashion shows are far more informal and not like the ones seen at the fashion weeks.”

As for the lines on display, there won’t be anything specific to IPL. “Each of the IPL nights will have fun party show of 10 to 15 minutes. But what’s interesting is that the every team will have a particular look in terms of the décor of the ballroom, where the show will be hosted. After watching three shows, one will be able to identify which team is hosting the party by just looking at the décor. The designers will be showcasing eveningwear,” Mehr adds.

While Kolkata will get to see shows by Manish Malhotra (March 14), Dev r Nil (April 1), Anamika Khanna (April 7 and April 19), Kallol Dutta (March 16 and April 4) and Prashant Verma (April 17), Delhi will play host to the collections of Malini Ramani, Varun Sardana, Abhishek and Nandita, Namrata Joshipura and Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna. Rocky S, Manav Gangwani, Monisha Jaising, Shantanu and Nikhil, Nandita Mahtani and Tarun Tahiliani will display their lines in Mumbai. Meanwhile, Jaipur will play host to Rina Dhaka, Ashish Soni, Vikram Phadnis, Atsu and Anuj Sharma.

Bangalore will have fashion shows by Manoviraj Khosla, Gayatri Khanna, Jason and Anshu and Manish Arora. Shane and Falguni Peacock, Gaurav Gupta and Varun Bahl will showcase in Chennai. Mandira Wirk, Ranna Gill, Amit Agarwal and Anand Kabra will show their lines for the parties thrown by Team Hyderabad. These will be held in Mumbai and Nagpur. In Mohali, models will walk the ramp for lines by Aki Narula, Pankaj and Nidhi, Rakesh Agarwal, Ramona Narang and Surily Goel.

Designers, of course, are excited. Nil of Dev r Nil Says “We are showcasing a collection based on jerseys. It’s a Spring-Summer eveningwear line that will have lovely detailing of drapes and pleats. Besides the show in Kolkata, we are also showcasing in Bangalore. Instead of highlighting Bollywood showstoppers, we believe in front rows. Candice Pinto, Anchal Kumar, Alesia Raut, Megha Kawale, Mashoom Singha, Shamita Singha, Simran Kaur Mundi will be walking the ramp for us. While designing for I Am... Afia, we spoke to Juhi Chawla about our show in Kolkata. She’s promised to attend our show in Kolkata. After all, SRK is hosting that party.”
